Really Cool Site
Check it: Pandora Internet Radio. You tell the search engine a song you like. And it finds that song and plays it for you. Then it begins to build a "station" for you that plays songs similar to what you entered. It builds on the songs you tell it that you like/dislike, etc. It's an excellent way to surf through music and figure out what you like and don't like.
Now, I do seriously doubt it has a lot of 'smaller' bands - I was able to find The Connells, but they're fairly standard-issue from my college years. Anyway, if you're a casual music lover, then check it. :)

Have you seen this site? It has a sweet talking Koala. Vic's Daily Giveaway.com Hopefully this little talking Koala will make my dreams come true. :-)
This sounds interesting! I'll have to check it out!
You can also do a free three-day trial at www.sirius.com over the internet. It's great -- satellite radio, clear reception, got 120+ channels, with everything from Howard Stern (eh) to 80's Music (!!!) to Elvis (eh again).
Thanks for the heads-up!
I LOVE Pandora, but I love the Connells even more. Somehow, though, I couldn't justify paying $40 for the only CD I could find of their songs-- Amazon maybe. Do you have a source? I'd kill for Boylan Heights!
Anne - I don't know of a source. In looking at Amazon, it seems it's still available new - $22 or so (but I'm thinking that's before shipping). It's also available for download on mp3.com if that helps. I have no clue if it's on iTunes or Napster or the like.
But yeah - good stuff.
Stumbled on your site searching for radio alternatives. I'm a Connells's fan, and have followed the latest news regarding them (they are still around, although playing only now and then). Their back catalog is due for release by either Rhino or Rykodisc (both are under Warner Bros., I think, so it is just a matter of which) at some point. Their past collection was tied up in legal hell for a while, as their prior label, TVT, put their stuff up as collateral for some loans, and then defaulted on the loans, causing some financial/insurance company (Prudential I think) to gain the rights to all their stuff. I think that is all close to being worked out, so prices should go down when the stuff is released.
